About This Work
“I love painting outdoors in Dundas and I hope you can see why from this painting. I did it in one of my favourite secret spots—it’s a backroad with no outlet; very shady (important when painting in the summer heat); and has lovely neighbours who don’t mind when I edge onto their property as the sun shifts. When I paint in out-of-the-way places, I see more. Rather than “things,” I see dappled light, half-structures, flashes of sky. Everything breaks into slabs of colour--hot, cool, brilliant, soft, fluttering. If this is your backyard, yes, I did modify your garage door. Forgive me. I needed a vertical line that pointed to your chimney. I’m always thinking about connections in my paintings, to help the viewer move around in it!”
