About This Work
“The painting ‘Hopping’ came into my head for a few reasons. Firstly, I’ve been working on paintings recently that address human/wildlife relationships and more specifically, us adapting to their world. Hence the pogo stick. Secondly, the painting represents all the rabbits hopping around my backyard!”
Sandee Ewasiuk is an artist who resides in Hamilton, Ontario. She is a graduate from the Ontario College of Art in Toronto where her focus was editorial illustration. She has also taken many art history courses from McMaster University. Sandee has been exhibiting for over 30 years with paintings in private collections around the world. She is also an art educator who has taught at the Art Gallery of Burlington, Fleming College (Haliburton School of Art and Design) and currently teaches at the Dundas Valley School of Art and has been for many years.
Sandee paints in acrylics with some mixed media including various papers to create pattern and texture. She is known for her stylized figurative paintings with her most recent inspirations coming from her connection with wildlife. She draws her inspirations from her experiences camping across Canada as well as many parts of Australia and the United States.
She describes her paintings:
"I like to play around with gesture, expression and movement, along with colour, light and texture, to evoke emotion. I’m simply painting colourful stories.”
