About This Work
“This painting was created over several days in February in front of my south facing dining room window. Daylight was becoming noticeably stronger while at the same time there was significant snowfall. I found the backlit setting with the light shining through and around the monstera leaves to be quite compelling and decided to try to record the scene.”
Biography
Based in Dundas, Ontario, Corine began making fine art in mid career after taking courses at Dundas Valley School of Art. Having previously obtained a B.Comm and MBA from University of Guelph and Western University respectively, she has, at different times, worked in finance and education. More recently Corine balances parenting with her roles as artist and project manager.
Artist Statement
I draw and paint to ground myself and try to communicate a kind of honesty. Working mostly from observation, I’m interested in how I interpret through my eye and hand, what I perceive around me. My subjects typically come from daily life and personal experience. It is in the creating that I am able to leave behind the noise of modern living and become immersed in a satisfying sensory experience.
