Born in Toronto, Robert Bateman has been keen artist and naturalist from his early years. His realist style has made him one of the foremost artists depicting the natural world. His interest in wildlife extends beyond an artistic one. He is known as an active spokesman for issues of ecology and preservation on a global scale. Bateman's work is in such collections as HRH King Charles and the late Princess Grace of Monaco. He is the subject of books and films and is an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Today, the City of Hamilton is home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island (North America) and we recognize we must do more to learn about the rich history of this land so we can better understand our roles as residents, neighbours, partners and caretakers.
