About This Piece
This piece completes a series of four. Four years, and all four seasons at Cootes Paradise. This was a particularly cold day of the 2025-26 winter. An ambitious hike turned into a rather short photoshoot, taking aim at some of my favourite broken willows near the water. I’m pleased with the way it turned out. I hope you enjoy it too.
Biography
Marten Visser is a landscape artist whose work is inspired by years living on the shores of Georgian Bay — and more than a decade of reforestation work that led him across isolated stretches of Northern Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. He works in acrylic, oil, gouache and acrylic pen to capture the sharp lines and vibrant colours of contemporary Canadian scenes. Today, Marten works in both plein-air as well as from a studio in Hamilton, Ontario.
