About This Piece
"Pondside Petunias" is from an ongoing series of oil paintings based on my gardens. Immersing myself in the beauty that surrounds my little part of the planet continues to be an important source of calm and joy. Gardening itself acts as a salve to the soul, and exploring the colours, shapes and relationships within the garden provides welcome respite from the concerns of the world.
Biography
Over the past 40 years, Holly has explored many genres, including landscape, portrait, and abstraction. Her summer escape to the District of Timiskaming in Northern Ontario inspires the smaller works en plein air, as well as the larger studio paintings. The magical skies, the ever-changing lake, and the crazy Jack Pines never fail to elicit a response.
She has been an instructor at Dundas Valley School of Art since January 2000, teaching drawing and painting classes in portrait, figure, still life, landscape and abstraction. Holly recently retired from her teaching position at George Brown College, Toronto, in the Design and Media Studies Departments.
Holly's work can be seen at the Carnegie Gallery, in Dundas Ontario. Her works can be found in collections in Canada, the U.S.A., and Italy. She holds an MFA from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., and a BA from the University of Waterloo.
