About This Piece
A stone wall protecting the cliff’s edge at Sam Lawrence Park in Hamilton acts as a makeshift easel. Cold wind chases a storm over the lake and into Toronto. Jessy, the painting, and I are blown about in its wake. We call out to the horizon, the sky responds.
Biography
Christopher Cape (b.1976) is a Canadian painter whose work explores the intersection of perception, place, and presence. Engaging directly with the landscape, he paints in the moment, allowing the physicality of the environment to shape his process. Paintings that capture the raw, unfiltered experience of being immersed in our world, translating shifting light, movement, and atmosphere into an abstract visual language. Whether working in the solitude of remote wilderness or busy frenetic streets, Cape’s practice is rooted in connection—to the land, to the moment and to the viewer.
