About This Piece
This oil painting captures a fleeting, dramatic moment over Port Dalhousie, born from a familiar drive toward Martindale Pond. I've passed this weathered vineyard barn countless times on my way to paddle, but on this particular day, a freshly broken storm left behind a tempestuous, glowing sky that simply begged to be painted. The vibrant clouds perfectly frame the rustic structure, drawing the eye across the sweeping rows of the vineyard toward the distant silhouette of the Niagara Escarpment. As with all my work, this scene was brought to life on a red canvas, adding an underlying warmth to these iconic, enduring landmarks of the region. This bold painting would be an ideal statement piece in a dining room, a wine cellar, a tasting room, or anywhere that our Niagara wines and culture are celebrated.

Biography
Mark is a landscape and wildlife artist from Grimsby, Ontario. He studied Technical Illustration at Sheridan College where he achieved the Governor General’s Academic Medal.

The untamed landscapes of Ontario have been Mark’s sanctuary since childhood. Born in Ontario in 1969 to immigrant parents from West Germany, Mark was introduced to the solace of places like Algonquin Park, where his family weekends were spent hiking and paddling. These experiences ingrained in him a deep love for the wilderness and its profound ability to quiet the mind.

While Mark’s acclaimed career as an architectural renderer has been defined by precision and structure, his heart has always belonged to the outdoors. His paintings are a direct reflection of this duality, balancing a disciplined technical approach with the emotional, immersive experiences he finds while paddling, cycling, and exploring the back-country.
