About This Piece
In this series, Jones uses masks to represent the social self—the identity we present to the world—while the balloon symbolizes the essential self, who we truly are. As adults, we often lose touch with this authentic self while focusing on expectations and image. The swirling lines above the figure represent the limiting thoughts that keep us from becoming who we were meant to be. Animals appear as quiet observers or companions, symbolizing instinct, authenticity, and a connection to our truest nature.

Artist Statement
Jones likes to explore the whimsical side of life through his art. Each of Jones’s mixed-media pieces start as an idea. That idea is then brought to life through photography. Jones’s images are often staged, incorporating props, lighting and various theatrical components. Continually looking to incorporate new ideas and mediums, Jones follows a multi-step process when creating his artwork. With a keen eye for texture, design and composition, coupled with a whimsical flare, Jones creates works that are aesthetically engaging while also evoking a visceral response in the viewer.
