About This Piece
In Grannies and Goldenberries, I arranged a still life featuring the juxtaposition of organic green apples and goldenberries with hard china dishes and soft, flowing fabrics. I painted the scene when the sunlight cast its shimmering rays and intricate shadows, hoping to create a dynamic piece filled with vitality and motion.
Artist Statement
I have long had a love affair with transparent watercolour. The magic of building up colour while maintaining luminosity thrills me, and this slow layering process, combined with detailed drawing, is my meditation. I am interested in exploring the play of sunlight and the patterns it creates in everyday life. By focusing on capturing the transient sunshine, particularly in early morning or late afternoon, compelling compositions are found and I am inspired to pay tribute to these fleeting moments.
Biography
Liane was born into a family of artists in Montreal who nurtured her creativity and interest in drawing and painting. After completing her fine art studies, she had a 35-year career as a graphic artist, while continuing to paint and exhibit her work. During that time, she dedicated herself to painting in water colour, a medium that has since become the primary focus of her practice. With a preference for the play of light and shadow, she works with transparent water colour layered over detailed drawing to create clean and luminous works on paper. Liane holds a Diploma of Fine Arts from CEGEP John Abbott College and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Calgary. She has been an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour since 1992, and more recently was elected to the Ontario Society of Artists, the Federation of Canadian Artists and the Society of Canadian Artists. She is represented by AGH Art Sales + Services in Hamilton and Westland Gallery in London, Ontario. Liane’s award-winning work has been exhibited in numerous shows across Ontario and more widely in Canada and the USA. Her work has been published in books and magazines, including International Artist and American Artist. She paints full-time in her sunny studio in Mississauga, Ontario.
