About This Piece
My paintings start with observation but after a time will take on a life of their own and I enjoy responding to that.

For this one, I took some of my favourite things to set up a still life in my studio—the yellow jug (which I love), my blue patterned tablecloth and those delicious honey crisp apples. I taped a big piece of Stonehenge paper to the wall – drew and painted – drew and painted some more – changed the position of things – changed the colours of some of the objects, and kept on until I was satisfied that I had a painting!

Biography
Painting in the modernist style, Iris works intuitively in a loosely representational and highly animated manner. She has exhibited locally and also internationally and has work included in private collections. She has been represented by Gallery on the Bay in Hamilton and has shown her work there; as well as TBA Artspace, Earls Court Gallery, Carnegie Gallery in Dundas and Dundas Valley School of Art.
